PhD Professor, University of Otago, Christchurch 新西兰基督城奥塔哥大学病理学教授 Prof. Madhav Bhatia heads the InflammationResearch Group in the Department of Pathology at the University of Otago,Christchurch, where he has been working since 2010. Prior to this, he hasworked at National University of Singapore NUS as Associate Professor (withTenure) and the Programme Leader for the Cardiovascular Biology ResearchProgramme, Life Sciences Institute. The Inflammation Research Group has anactive research programme on the molecular pharmacology and molecular pathologyof various inflammatory conditions such as acute pancreatitis, polymicrobial sepsisand burns, with the long-term goal of developing clinically effectivetherapeutic approaches. Current areas of Prof. Bhatia’s interestinclude (1) Gas Mediators in Inflammation; (2) Neurogenic Inflammation in AcutePancreatitis, Sepsis, and Burns; (3) Chemokines in Acute Pancreatitis, Sepsis,and Burns; and (4) Apoptosis of Pancreatic Acinar Cells. He has received numerous grants, hasauthored more than 150 contributions to the peer-reviewed literature, given severalinvited presentations in different countries and is on Editorial Boards of 34journals. His publications have been cited more than 7000 times, and he has an"h"-index of 45. Prof. Bhatia has several distinctions tohis credit. He has delivered invited talks at several international conferencesworldwide. In 2013, he has been awarded ‘A’ grade (top ranking) in thenationwide Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF - 2012) quality eva luationexercise that examined the quality of research performance by all eligibleacademic and research staff in New Zealand universities and other tertiaryorganizations. Overthe years, Prof. Bhatia has mentored several postgraduate students are researchstaff, who are now independent investigators in their own right, leadingresearch groups in different parts of the world.
